Word count verification doesn't end until a minute before midnight, Howland Island time. I think that's somewhere west of Hawaii. And I'm going to use as much of that time as I can, which is probably an additional twenty hours or so. I figure I'm entitled, cos I was so tired at the moment of 00:01 1 November that I went to bed and didn't write anything until that night, and it was only a hundred words or so.

Besides, I've cheated already by writing the first chapter months ago. I'm not including that in the word count. Despite the temptation.

Anyway, we'll see.

As I understand it, anything goes. Spell out the words of your chapters. Put the notes you have been writing to yourself into the story [in square brackets]. You are not writing a novel, you are writing the first draft of a novel.

Purple is fine. I wrote a steamy sex scene for my second novel as a standalone scene which I will plug in later. The first one I could hardly bring myself to refer to it. I think that somewhere in the middle is great; no, you don't need to spell it out. Mind you, that "hot blooded husbands" book...

If they let you do it, you're not cheating.

Go Pete, Go!

And don't think of it as cheating. Think of it as assisting yourself!

There's an old baseball saying..."If you aren't cheating, you aren't trying." So go for it Pete! I know you can finish this in time! (Just stay off the steroids.)

Oh, use chapter 1 in the word count if you have to. It belongs there, and you wrote so little in the first days that it makes it worth using.

I know I've mentioned this before but I love Nat King Cole.
Would you turn up the volume so I can hear? (lol)
