We went out to the airport to collect her, collected her, and now she's having a kip.

We trundled along an hour early, intending to take up the slack with close observations of airliners. We got to sit at the end of the runway as a Virgin Blue 737 slid overhead. DS feigned enthusiasm, shouting "Yes!" and punching the air at the moment of closest approach. He fooled nobody, but it was amusing.

Had a poke around the old RAAF base. Nowadays it's a series of old hangars and workshops and married quarters, and the remaining air force business is conducted inside a small compound with a big hangar and the control tower. The airport owners are trying to work out how to turn this area into office space and shops, I think.

And then we parked and went into the lounge, where we hung out of the windows and took photographs and commented on the incomprehensible actions of the ground crew.

Eventually Kerri's plane arrived, and there she was! Smiles all around and downstairs to collect the baggage, which turned out to be one of the first off. Benefits of business class, I guess. Your tax dollars at work.

She's got a healthy cough to her - picked up some virus in Switzerland. Short of sleep and wanting a shower. This is about par for the course after any long trip. Apparently the Bangkok-Sydney leg is always chockers with Aussies travelling to and from Thailand, and even in business class the drunks take up all the spare seats.

There was a quick look at the goodies she brought home - knick-knacks and chocolates and a hundred photographs - and then she got her head down, though I could hear her coughing for a while after.

Poor Kerri! She's got the wrong temperament for long-haul flights. DD and I delight in it and enjoy every morsel of food, every little freebie, every flex of the wing, but for Kerri it's a chore and the only thing that matters is how much sleep she can squeeze out of the seat.

But we're all glad to be back together again. Even the animals had to poke their noses in and say hello, the dog a little more enthusiastically than the cats.
