Pete, I had a Lexmark for a long, long time-4 years or more, and I think I bought 2 cartridges in all that time. I bought ink by the pint, although I can't seem to find that anymore. They were really easy to refill, although I agree with the messy part, and the colors bleeding into each other. My printer is still working, after 4 years of refills, well the printing part does, something is wrong with the feeder, so it won't grab the next page, and I have to feed them in by hand. My dad was bugging me about what I wanted for Christmas, and since there really wasn't anything I wanted or needed, I told him a printer. So, now I have another Lexmark. It uses different cartridges, and I haven't tried to refill them yet--I'm going to be really upset if they can't be refilled.
But, I like the idea of separate tanks, and I will go that route next time.
