Stopped being a passenger on LiveJournal and bought a one year sub today. I figure that I get a lot of pleasure out of it and I might as well pay for some of the resources I'm using.

Plus there's a heap of extras I get from being a paid-up member. maybe I can figure out how to do some of that cool HTML stuff.

Officeworks today to get an ink refill - I ran out of black ink on my i560 printer which means I couldn't print up shipping notes for books. Only got a few backed up, but still, i don't want to let it get out of hand. Also picked up a Day-Timer refill and some tape, and spent a pleasant half-hour looking at lots of other stuff.

I've started doing little watercolours on the backs of the padded envelopes I use for shipping. Just a little sketch related to the book inside and they are pretty basic, but they get me using the stuff and thinking about painting.

Box of books arrived from Folio. Two copies of The Hobbit for resale, and a freebie - Lucretius On the Nature of Things. Hmmm. Three books packed in a big cardboard box inside a mailbag. I've got two more to come - in October.

Bought the Tolstoy biography of Patrick O'Brian today. 20% off at the post-Christmas sales. Will I get time to read it anytime soon?

Nope. Still plowing through Mansfield Park. Not a page-turner like the thrillers I've been reading, but it gives me plenty of things to think about for Manly Books. Slotting in events that Ann recollected in her LJ entries as part of the narrative. Show don't tell. Pappa and Ann having a late night chat. Tony taking her out on the harbour. Meeting the previous occupant of her room. And I can build up the stalker. Should work out about 80 000 words, which is a decent size for a novel.

Had a look at Calthorpes House on Mugga Way - one of the original houses built in Canberra during the first years. This one was larger and better appointed than most. And the Garrans lived next door! A fascinating look at a time gone by. Must get the oldies to have a look at it next time they are down. I'm supposed to drive Mum and her sister around Victoria for a week or so in January. See how that works out.
