Rudy
A quick update. I'm back from Melbourne, where I had a marvellous time. Saturday we drove down, Ken reading "American Travels" by Don Watson. aloud, so we were about halfway through by the time we got to Ken's parents' place. Lovely to see Ken's mum again - she is a real darling. Ken's dad is a bit quieter, but he has depths - he did some of the paintings on the walls, which aren't half bad. There's also Ken's Walkley Award on the mantel.
I was totally spoilt the whole time, I've got to say.
Sunday, Ken and I went down to HMAS Cerberus, where I used to live. We drove down the main road that I'd travel a couple of times each week, and I recognised very little until we were quite near the old place. Which they've torn down or moved. Just an empty lot now, grass covering everything including the slab of the carport/shed.
A delightful lunch. "Egg and Beacon Roll," said Ken, studying the breakfast menu. "That'd be a light snack."
Then we drove back and took the parents out to see "Victoria christina Barcelona", a Woody Allen Movie which was funny, thoughtful, lively and totally Barcelona. How I love that city!
Ken read the rest of the book aloud that evening and when he finished, presented it to me as a belated Christmas gift!
Monday, we four - and Rudy the dog - toured Williamstown. Had a meal at an outdoor table on nelson parade, and I bought a Breton sailors cap at the nautical store, busy having a half-price sail. I've been sorry I didn't buy one in Brittany earlier this year, and this cap will go nicely with my taxi uniform at work, and guernsey at other times.
Tuesday, I drove back. Fairly tedious trip straight up the Hume. I set the iPhone on shuffle and enjoyed the odd corners of my music collection.
The photograph shows Rudy the terrier with his doggie jacket, which reflects Ken's mum's passion for Obama. The house has any number of posters and newspaper photographs of Obama. I found a YouTube video of his victory speech and we all watched it. Looking forward immensely to his inauguration.
