...many many times before, one of the recent joys of my life is spending time, on line and rarely and richly in person, with some of the wonderful women and men of BookCrossing. I mention women first because most BookCrossers are female, and well, I like women.

I drive a taxi twelve hours a night, five nights a week, so I can afford to go off and meet BookCrossers. Yeah, all right, I like travel too, but the real reward for me is the people, not the places. My passengers must glance over at me sometimes at their driver smiling through the evening. I'm remembering the fantastic time I had in Charleston, the days with TexasWren and Tzurriz and Mojosmom and WistfulDragon and SemioticGhosts and Elhamisabel and all the rest - you know who you are: I've wrapped my arms around you and sighed in happiness.

My wife's uncle says, "You didn't need BookCrossing to discover that you could hug beautiful women," but he's wrong. You can't believe how introverted and shy a computer nerd I was pre-BookCrossing.

I'm off again on Saturday. We're off again, Kerri and I, that is. I'm not entirely sure how I came to be married and a parent, but it happened and I'm happy.

This time it's four days in New Zealand, followed by a long weekend in Melbourne, where I will meet up again with many of my BookCrossing friends. Bliss!

Unfortunately, I'll miss out on seeing many of my New Zealand friends, especially Rarsberry, who is only a short while out from her wedding, and is positively glowing with happiness, judging by her blog, and Teotakuu, who embodies the spirit of the land in a magic way.

I love making people smile, and I had my chance on Facebook, when I responded to Teotakuu's friend detail request by saying that I was a member of the I Adore Teotakuu Fan Club. I'm a member of many such clubs, by the way, but that doesn't make the subjects of my adoration any less special.

Teotakuu replied that this must have a membership of one. Oho! I thought, and promptly created the fan club on FaceBook. People from all over the world flocked to join: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=18307037592

Heheheheh. So smile away, dearest Otakuu! You are very well loved, and I count the minutes until I see you again.
