Where in the world is Skyring?
Jun. 30th, 2009 08:18 am Currently Skyring and daughter are in Shinjuku. We've a whole day in Tokyo ahead of us before we fly off on Wednesday to London. It's all gone well, mostly, apart from the being bewildered and sleepless in the world's busiest railway station thing.
Bewildering is the word all right. If it wasn't for everybody being so helpful and polite, this would be a very disturbing place. As it is, we just wonder around poking each other in the ribs at each new thing. Green Pepsi. Jellied coffee. Apple chalk. A street full of vending machines. Engrish.
"SPECIAL NOTICE! We are very sorry to inform you that image of television is distorted now repair works will be held the following period. Please understand it. Thank you for your cooperation." As far as I can see, the television is fine, though perhaps the hotel management was referring to the programming, of which "distorted" is an appropriate word. Not to mention disturbing.
