Summer sun
Jan. 19th, 2009 12:26 pmIt's been a lazy weekend. My tax is in, there's some solid declutter gone on and for once I have nothing urgent on my plate.
Finished my shift at 0300, but had to be woken early to get the cab to the workshop. That as about 0830 and we went straight to the Fyshwick markets, where we had skinny lattes all round, some tarty things for Kerri and DD, and a decadent ham and cheese croissant for me.
Then we did our fruit and vege shopping, swapping quips and pointing out interesting characters to each other. A great place for people-watching, the markets on a Saturday. As ever, I aim to get a smile out of the jaded characters behind the cash registers and usually find something to raise a grin.
Then I slept. My weekends are spent largely comatose. I must have been a cat in a previous life. Maybe in this one. Woke up in the afternoon and we had a drink on the deck, Magners cider for me and Pimms for Kerri. Fresh foliage all around, warm but not overly sunny, it was very pleasant enjoying the summer afternoon under the shade of our desert ash.
We remembered Kerri's sister Robyn, who set me travelling exactly four years ago with a bottle of champagne in the mellow evening. She's no longer with us, but we'll never forget her.
Cooked dinner together and watched a movie. So pleasant to spend quality time with my wife - during the week we only get to talk together about three in the morning before I fade off to sleep.
Sunday was even less active. We did some research in the afternoon for the Amsterdam trip. We're looking at doing a river cruise either beginning or ending at Amsterdam. Istanbul to Amsterdam would be nice - I've yearned to show Kerri Istanbul since I spent a magic night and day there in 2007, but that's about thirty days. Pleasant, but maybe too hard to get all that time off.
So far none of the cruise companies seem to have their dates for 2010 listed. Which is OK, because the convention dates don't seem to be firmly set.
