Guernsey Ramblings
Apr. 2nd, 2008 06:20 pmMy poor feet are near worn off to bleeding stumps. We took the bus to the other side of the island - something that one cannot do very easily in Australia - and then walked around the coast, along some picturesque cliffs, up some lanes and finally caught the bus for about a kilometre, getting off near the airport. We then walked up Russell Road, to the Little Chapel, then retraced our steps, up a road, down a lane and there we were at the German Military Hospital.
A huge undergound establishment, dug out by slave labour. We walked around and around, our feet fair worn to shreds.
I left The English Patient"by an appropriate sign.
I hope someone finds it soon - the place was very damp.
And then we walked on a bit more to get the bus. "This must be Rome," said Kerri, beginning to limp as we rounded another blind corner. "All roads lead to Rome, and we've been on this road an awfully long time."
Needed the exercise - we've been overeating shamefully for a month or so.
Gueurnsey is every bit the magic kingdom I remember. And more. Kerri loves it too, all the delightful cottages, the delicious architecture, the narrow lanes...
Tomorrow we leave for St Malo. Sorry to leave Guernsey, but France will be fun and there are friends to meet at the end of our road.
