A very pleasant surprise this weekend. My youngest sister and her husband came down from up the coast to attend a seminar held locally. They also brought their two children - two boys 3 and 6 - and their au pair from Germany.

Sunday was my day off, and DD helped look after the kids while I shopped and pottered and napped. Theu came back mid-afternoon and announced that I was to take them to the War Memorial while DD finished off some assignments.

Fair enough - we hopped in my sister's car, AP driving (and occasionally banging her hand on the door when she reached for the gearstick), and drove the short distance. Glorious autumn afternoon after some cold and grey days, but the stamina of the little ones isn't what it could be.

Had fun throwing coins into the pool of remembrance - they scoop out the money, I told the boys, and have a Christmas party at the end of the year. Sat through some of the sounds and light presentations, browsed the exhibits, looked at the paintings. AP has a keen interest in art, but the boys don't!

And outside, she picked up the youngest and gave him a spin. I love this, especially with the backdrop!

Later on, all five had a quick dinner before driving back, and I burnt CDs containing all th pictures and movies we took today.

A lovely family day, but my time before I leave is very limited now, and I've got a lot to do. Oh well, I can sleep on the plane!

Is there a Canberra BookCrossing gathering tonight? If not, then I won't be seeing anyone local until May.

I'll pop into Starbucks anyway.
