Homecomings
May. 21st, 2005 05:38 amJust press here, OK? Trust me on this. (Besides which, i nicked it from antof9 and you've probably seen it already. But it's still great.)
In other news, I picked up Claude the cat from the vet with a big white bandage around his foot. And an x-ray from the vet. So I was more or less prepared for the bill and only howled and sobbed once or maybe twice. Might take one of the cat's painkillers.
And then filling the car up cost $70. Cripes.
I got back home, let the cat out of the bag, making sure that he had no available exit in case he took it upon himself to escape outside and into the hedge where he knows that pursuit will be risky. He was pretty wobbly and had space cadet eyes from the anaesthetic. The dog thought that this would be a good time to gain some dominance points and didn't understand why I wasn't seizing the opportunity to kick her enemy when he was down.
No cars in the garage when I returned, so I guessed that DD had got a call from the airport and gone off to pick up Kerri. And it was so. Gave me a chance to put the freshly washed and dried sheets on the bed and give the kitchen bench-top a scrub.
Kerri returned, complaining about the weight of my laptop. She wants to use her professional allowance to buy a sublaptop that she can slip into her handbag. QWERTY keyboard, wireless, Powerpoint, USB sockets. Anyone got ideas? Kind of like my little Jornada 720 that I used to have.
We went out for dinner and to pick up DD's new glasses from Belconnen. She picked them herself, she likes them, and she smiled radiantly when she put them on and looked into the distance, so I guess her eyesight has been declining. My role was to be the driver and to wipe a few more little magnetic credits away.
And here I am in the early morning dealing with manic Texans - thank you Gorydetails, how can I ever repay you? - and discussing backpacks and fixing up South African provinces and cuddling cats. And trying to beat some sense into malicious Wikipedia editors.

Back to bed now, where I have a nice warm body to press my chilled flesh against. But I don't think she loves me quite that much, at least until half an hour or so when I warm up and there's not the need then, is there? Why can't we have deliciously warm winters like Queensland?
