My younger sister's ex-husband. My brother-in-law, I suppose. Died in his sleep after an epileptic fit, leaving five kids from 4 to 17.

I only met him a couple of times, the last twenty years back just as the marriage was failing and I remember his utter misery. A short wedding and no children, luckily, and both he and my sister went off and found lifelong partners. Still it's sad to hear of a death so young, and a reminder, as if one is needed in these days, that life can end in a heartbeat. Ask not for whom the bell tolls.

Poor bloke must have heard all the jokes from 1969 onwards. I think I would have changed my name.

Just received three books in Special-K's crime bookring. Including one that was lost. Oh lord but I'm way behind on these. And everything else. Must stop sleeping for a while to catch up. Halfway through Mansfield Park and I must stop and read something else. I've also broken my vow not to write more fiction until I've finished, and I've got Ann on the Manly ferry reading this very book. Having fun loading the chapter up with subtleties and hidden meanings and things for the reader to discover.

My Convention Journal has arrived in London. YokoSpungeon chose the worst possible moment to make her entry announcing its safe entry - in the split second between Newk hold a book dramatically over a fountain and then leaning over to see it splash down. My fault for being so sluggish, I know.
