WWest WWing!
Jan. 3rd, 2005 01:21 pmA ddouble ddose this week. New episodes on Monday and Tuesday, albeit both at eleven at night. Worth staying up for.
I've bit the bullet and handed in my registration for the Fort Worth Convention. Now I've just got to find some way to pay for it. Of course I'll go - I can always sell a few shares if I can't find the whole amount before I need to pay - the question is how best to get the money to put back into my portfolio.
I'm not going to get it by selling second-hand books. My average profit on a book sale would be less than ten dollars, and at one sale per day per thousand books, ummm, that's not going to cut it. Most of the profit goes towards paying the various bills such as ADSL, stationery - I go through a LOT of padded envelopes - and any that's left over finds ways to be spent.
I also suspect I'm not going to sell thousands of books through Lulu, even when I get the two I'm working on into a fit state to be published.
Probably the simplest and easiest way to raise the cash is with a part time casual job. I've put my name down for a position or two, and once the world wakes up again tomorrow, i might get something going.
It's Kerri's last day off today and I must admit it's been very pleasant to have here around the house for a week or so when we aren't travelling and can sit down have a cup of coffee, go for a walk, whatever whenever we want. Looking forward to our week in New Zealand before the Christchurch convention when we won't be doing much at all.
March and April are going to be busy. 19-28 March is the New Zealand thing, and here's what I've worked out for April:
Monday 4th Canberra-Sydney-London arriving Tuesday 5th.
Spend a week doing the Monopoly thing. this should be plenty of time, even allowing for rainy weather.
Tuesday 12th London Meetup.
Wednesday 13th London-Fort Worth. Hopefully I can get a direct flight.
Thursday 14th Recover.
Friday 15th - Sunday 17th. Bookcrossing Convention.
Monday 18th Fort-Worth-Sydney-Canberra, arriving Wednesday 20th.
I'll see a travel agent tomorrow to check out how best (and cheapest) to do this. I plan to stay in a hostel in London, but maybe there's a package I can get. Dunno.
Have to start preparing for the trip. I'm going to want to send books and things over ahead of time, so for the Monopoly thing I need to research appropriately themed books, find or buy them, and ship them over by sea mail. Fort Worth won't need the research, but I'll be wanting to send Australian books for that appropriate "exotic" flavour. Probably best not to send Tim-Tams by sea mail, so they can go over by economy air a month beforehand.
I suspect the next couple of months are going to race past.
