The birds have found my relocated bird feeder. A couple of crimson rosellas have just flown in and I can gaze on their brilliant colours just outside my window. This is going to be a big bonus in the grey winter days ahead. A currawong frightened them off for a second, but it wasn't interested in bird seed and soon decamped. Took a picture - must see if I can incorporate it somehow.

In stark contrast, there's a rat under the house. Kerri woke me early this morning and we could hear it under the floor. Bloody thing. On investigation I found it had been eating the reserve stocks of birdseed and had chewed the top right off the old icecream container. I mean right off - all I could find were a couple of shreds of green plastic and the lid itself was nowhere to be seen. Surely it couldn't have eaten the whole lid? All that green plastic?

Oh well, it's got some green rat poison to chew on now. That's the thing about under the house. There's only one way in, and if I close the door there's no escape. Shouldn't have left it open overnight a week back.

I'd send the terrier in - she's sudden death on rats - but she doesn't like confined spaces. Unlike the cats, who dive in as soon as they hear the door being opened and won't come out until they've had a good sniff around. Probably why I left the door open so long - living with a cat trapped under the floorboards is hideous and sleep is impossible. I'd send the cat in to kill the rat, and he'd happily do it too, but I don't want another $600 vet bill if he gets torn up in the process.

Mucked about last night trying to get DotNetNuke to run, but it wouldn't work. Some permissions thing I've got to work through, I'll bet.

Kerri has $85 worth of Swedish Kroner which should be enough for train and bus tickets getting around Uppsala. I'll give her Miss Smilla's Feeling For Snow to release. It's fairly close to Copenhagen and Greenland, at least from my perspective. Have to find her a couple of other books to read and release, though I suspect she'll be working on the plane there and back, with a lot of papers to churn through.

Swotvac for Mary. She's working hard over her textbooks. She's getting Distinctions in her work and having a great time. Her mind is so sharp and she's such a pleasure to be with nowadays. I'm going to be so sad when she and her brother finally leave the nest - we all spark off each other and enjoy ourselves, though it's not all that common that we are actually in the same room together.
